Your Practitioner

Meet your kinesiologist, Charmain Borg

Growing up I had various aches and pains. Many “unexplainable” things. Doctors didn’t always help, neither did the medicine they prescribed. As a young adult in the late 1990s, I was open to seeing various forms of practitioners - from osteopaths, Chinese medicine doctors, and so on. In my early 20s I completed Levels 1 and 2 in Reiki. From my late 20s, I worked hard as a high school teacher working with kids at risk, but in the end it reminded me of myself so much that my mental health suffered and I had to leave. Two months later, I participated in my first 10-day noble silent retreat. 3 months later I was off to India to become a yoga instructor.

Before I left for India I read my first book by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I wanted to meet him. He lives in India when he’s not touring around. So when I went to India I went straight to Dharamsala, in northern India, the home of the Tibetan people in exile and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. I did a yoga course and a Buddhist meditation retreat. They were the last ones for the year before winter hit. After my Buddhist retreat I was hooked. I was hooked on what was being taught and how much felt so true for my life and the suffering I had endured - both physically and mentally. So I changed priorities, stayed where I was in order to continue with my studies of Tibetan Buddhism philosophy and language, and decided I wouldn’t pursue yoga.

Since then it was all about Buddhism - to the point of me joining Gampo Abbey monastery in Canada led by Pema Chodron and then returning to India to take ordination in the Drukpa Kagyu lineage. I was happily living in India studying and meditating full time until I became sick. Sick in a way beyond the usual for us Westerners in India. This was debilitating. I could barely sit up. I could barely talk. I was depleted, no energy to move. After a couple of months of going back and forth to hospitals, I was diagnosed with Lupus and sent back to Australia. I returned home in a wheelchair. It was devastating. Not because of the Lupus, but because I had to leave what I was doing in India and return home to Australia to get better. After I returned, I was rediagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I spent years trying to manage both my physical and mental health.

With my health improving somewhat I went back and forth to India but each time returning ill. I finally knew I couldn’t keep doing this to myself. I knew I had to accept the limitations of my body, and what it was telling me, and set up home back in Australia.

As I started to feel better I went back to teaching in schools - working with kids at risk and then specialising further with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, as well as those with Autism, ADHD, etc.

Regardless, I’ve always been interested in wellbeing, how it all works and how people overcome illness and hardship. I completed some workshops and courses in counselling and mental health. Finally I took the plunge to move out of teaching and become a qualified kinesiologist.

I love merging the West with the East. I love bringing the science of the body with the science of the mind and spirit.

It is due to all of my experiences and training that I am able to listen, support, understand and care for you (or your child) in this safe space I hold.

You will come in stressed, anxious, unhappy, confused, lost, unmotivated, stuck, sore, under-performing, and/or disconnected. Tailoring each session to your needs, we will gently journey together addressing what comes up so that you are aware of the shifts that will allow you to feel relaxed, confident, clear-minded and have ease of function, knowing you are supported and now have a methodology to move forward. A new day will dawn!

So it is with this in mind that I offer my genuine desire and expertise to help, assist, support and guide you to the place you want to be.

If that resonates with you or if you are curious about how I can help you, please reach out, make contact or just make an appointment.

It will be a privilege to work with you (or your child).

Big love,

Charmain Borg
